Despite reductions in muscle mass and muscle strength in adults with CHD, the muscle strength per muscle mass relationship does not differ from controls

چکیده
Abstract Background: Patients with CHD exhibit reduced isometric muscle strength and mass; however, little is known how these parameters relate. Therefore, the aim was to investigate relation between limb mass for patients in comparison age- sex-matched control subjects. Methods: Seventy-four (35.6 ± 14.3 years, women n = 22) 74 matched controls were included. Isometric elbow flexion, knee extension, hand grip assessed using dynamometers. Lean mass, reflecting skeletal arms legs dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Results: Compared controls, had lower grip, (6.6 1.8 kg versus 5.8 1.7 kg, p < 0.001) (18.4 3.5 15.9 3.2 0.001). There no difference achieved force per unit compared (elbow flexion 0.03 0.004 0.005 N/g, 0.5; 0.008 0.001 0.7; extension 0.027 0.06 0.028 0.5). For both groups, correlated strongly (patients r 0.86, 0.89), (patients, 0.84, 0.81), leg 0.64, 0.68). Conclusion: The relationship adults indicates that muscles have same efficiency as healthy controls.

Relationship of skeletal muscle mass, muscle strength and bone mineral density in adults with cystic fibrosis.
Few studies have investigated peripheral muscle strength and quality in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). The present study tested the isometric and isokinetic strength of the quadriceps and hamstrings using an isokinetic dynamometer and a strength-testing chair in 25 CF adults and 25 controls. Total body and leg muscle mass were determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, and bone minera...

Background and Objectives: Sarcopenia is explained as age-related reduction in muscle mass and performance. Some of the most important risk factors for sarcopenia include age, malnutrition, and sedentary life style. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of food intake and physical activity with body composition, muscle strength and muscle function in post-menopausal women. ...

Study 2: older healthy men (72 +/- 5 yr) were randomized to oxandrolone (20 mg/day) or placebo. Maximum voluntary strength was de...
متن کاملLongitudinal muscle strength changes in older adults: influence of muscle mass, physical activity, and health.
The longitudinal changes in isokinetic strength of knee and elbow extensors and flexors, muscle mass, physical activity, and health were examined in 120 subjects initially 46 to 78 years old. Sixty-eight women and 52 men were reexamined after 9.7 +/- 1.1 years. The rates of decline in isokinetic strength averaged 14% per decade for knee extensors and 16% per decade for knee flexors in men and w...
